My first trip to the US in 1982 made me long for more.
More than anything, I wanted
to see more of the Western part of the US, and especially places of natural beauty.
I was not brave enough to travel on my own so I started to look for an organized tour.
Trekamerica had just what I wanted: a 5-week tour through 9 states, and
with 15 national parks & monuments on the itinerary. I almost saw it all on this tour!
We were just 8 of us in the van, plus our guide Rob who knew the area very well.
We stayed at campsites, except for 5 hotel nights in
San Francisco and Las Vegas, and 1 night in an Indian hogan. I got used to the lifestyle in no time. The last camping day in Zion 5 weeks later was no fun, cleaning and
packing the tents for the last time.
The only thing missing in my life then was more room for more souvenirs (t-shirts!) ... and as usual money!
OK, I must admit that getting used to civilization again did not take long either. TV, clean sheets or just having
a bathroom all to yourself can be addictive too. Besides, Las Vegas is not boring, and when I got tickets to a show with Motown legends
the Four Tops I stopped grieving for my lost tent. The show was canceled! Luckily, I found a Motown t-shirt
from Motown Café to wear when I listen to Motown back home. Always something.
To Be Continued...but take the tour first!
